Detox (排毒)
What Western marketing calls detox, Chinese medicine calls clearing heat and draining damp — and it is an everyday habit in southern China rather than an occasional programme. The range covers the ready-made cooling teas (Shaxiliangcha, Tongrentang’s dandelion, chrysanthemum and cassia blends) and the loose herbs behind them: ze xie, huang bo, chuan xin lian, honeysuckle and forsythia.
Traditional use
Cooling teas are traditionally drunk in hot weather or after rich food, and the tradition is equally clear that they are not for everyone — they are considered unsuitable during a cold-pattern illness, or for anyone who already feels the cold. That caution is part of the tradition, not a disclaimer.
